Poor Man's Barbecue Sauce

Utensils
  • Spoon
  • Bowl
  • Sauce Pan
Ingredients
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • ½ cup yellow mustard
  • ¼ cup worchestershire sauce
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
    -or-
    1 teaspoon pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Stove Top Directions
I make the sauce on the stove if I plan to use it on cooked food.

Combine all ingredients into the sauce pan and mix well breaking up any clumps of sugar. Heat mixture until it just begins to boil. Reduce the heat slightly and continue cooking the sauce until it thickens; stirring frequently. Once the sauce reaches your desired thickness its ready to use!

Microwave Directions
I often use the microwave if I intend to use the sauce for basting. You may not want the sauce to be very thick if you intend to cook it further. You mainly just want the sugars to dissolve.

Combine all ingredients into a microwave safe bowl and mix well breaking up any clumps of sugar. Heat the mixture until it boils (about 2 minutes). Remove the sauce and stir it well. Continue heating the sauce at 50% power until it reaches the desired thickness; stirring frequently.
Serving Suggestions
Goes well with chicken or pork!
